MEIDS started life in 2017 after an internal review at an operational ATC unit found the same four issues most units will recognise.

MEIDS was built inside a working ATC unit during an operations room redesign, where old equipment had to be replicated in new desks and audit findings had to be closed at the same time. That constraint shaped everything.
